LEGACY: Haggard, Twitty & Jones

Saturday, January 12 @ 08:00 PM

Margaritaville is thrilled to announce a one-of-a-kind event coming to Paradise Theater this January! Join us as the children of country music’s greatest icons perform together live during “LEGACY: Haggard, Twitty, & Jones” featuring Marty Haggard, Michael Twitty, and Georgette Jones.

Marty Haggard is the oldest son of American music legend Merle Haggard, who Marty considers to be “the best country singer/songwriter ever”. He toured with his own band and his father’s for many years, and in 1986, he garnered a nomination as Best New Male Vocalist from the Academy of Country Music.  Shortly after the awards show, Marty was injured in a car accident suffering a serious head injury, including memory loss, requiring four years of recovery.

Marty’s love for his dad and his dad’s “real country” music inspired him to begin a project, “A Tribute to Merle Haggard, My Dad”.  In 2010, he cut the first album in his tribute, consisting of 15 Hag classics.  In 2010/2011 he performed at the Oak Ridge Boy’s Theatre and Clay Cooper Theatre in Branson, Missouri.  In 2011 he also recorded his second Tribute album to his dad.  Marty has spent the last several years performing all over the United States and Canada, plus England, Ireland and Scotland.

Michael Twitty is the oldest son of rock and country legend Conway Twitty. As did Conway, Michael can take an audience inside the music. Whether it is the tender meaning of a soulful ballad or the frenzied excitement of a rockin’, stompin’ dance tune, Michael’s audiences live each song along with this irresistible entertainer. His infectious energy, tremendous vocal ability, and timely wit keep audiences on the edge of their seat for the entire performance and on their feet at the close of his show.

Michael Twitty has taken his show around the world several times, from the dynamic “Michael Twitty Show”, to the critically acclaimed “Memories of Conway Show”, to the remarkable “Twitty Bird Show”. His many television appearances, video releases and recordings have brought him even more recognition on an international level. From Canada to Japan, Michael Twitty has won fans time and time again. Recently, Michael has been taking his “Memories of Conway” show to various casinos and theaters around the country. Michael takes you down memory lane, while he shares his thoughts of his Dad in story and song. He will make you laugh, make you cry, and he will definitely entertain you.

Tamala Georgette Jones was born to the only Hall of Fame husband and wife country artists, George Jones and Tammy Wynette. She’s been singing with one or both parents since the age of three. She recorded her first single with her Dad, “Daddy Come Home” when she was ten years old and performed it on an HBO special. Georgette also worked as a backup singer for her Mom. She is a songwriter and member of SESAC and the CMA. Georgette tours Ireland twice a year, where she has developed a very loyal fan base. She also tours Europe and Asia.

Georgette has filmed a TV series entitled “Sordid Lives” with Emmy award winner Leslie Jordan (Will and Grace) and many other big stars such as Olivia Newton-John, Bonnie Bedelia (Die Hard), and Margaret Cho. Georgette re-recorded three of her Mom’s songs in addition to five songs from Olivia Newton John for the soundtrack. More recently Georgette has recorded 2 CDs with Heart of Texas Records – “A Slightly Used Woman” and “Strong Enough to Cry.” She just released “When Tractors Fly” with Lennon Records.

Don’t miss “LEGACY: Haggard, Twitty & Jones” live, only at Margaritaville. Tickets begin at $20 via Ticketmaster. Tickets are also available at the Margaritaville Retail Store.
